Electric bus breaks record of autonomy in the US

A 12-meter-long electric bus hit the longest distance record with a single battery charge, US manufacturer Proterra said.
The Catalyst E2 Max uses a battery that stores 660 kWh and traveled 1,772.2 kilometers in the Navistar Proving Grounds test area in Indiana. The average speed was 24 km / h.

The previous record of 1,630 km was a light electric vehicle for single seat passengers.
"Driven by greater cost savings per kilometer, we believe the business case for electric buses is superior to that of all new applications," said Proterra Executive Director Ryan Popple.
"The public transport market will be the first to make the complete transition to electric vehicles," he added.
A Proterra electric bus costs about 50 percent more than a conventional one. Last year, the company sold 190 units and expects to surpass this number in 2017.
