NISSAN

Nissan Ariya 2026

The electric Nissan Ariya has received a minimalist new look for the new model year, as part of the first major update since its 2022 debut.

The large black panel on the front of the previous version has been removed, placing more emphasis on the Nissan badge, which is now backlit. Its angular daytime running lights have also been replaced with new curved elements with the signature three-stripe design.

The sleeker look ties the Ariya more closely to the new Leaf crossover, which is due to arrive in UK showrooms early next year.

As reported by the UK’s Autocar, images of the new Ariya released by Nissan do not show the rear of the car, but it is possible that it will get new-look lights.

Nissan has not released details on any mechanical or technological updates; more information will be announced at the upcoming Tokyo Motor Show. However, it has been confirmed that the Ariya will gain “vehicle-to-load” functionality, allowing the battery to power external devices via the charging port.

New looks and tech...The most noticeable change is the redesigned front end, which adopts a cleaner, grille-free appearance paired with Leaf-inspired LED headlights. The bumper has been reworked for a simpler look that drops the previous side intakes, while the lower intake gains a more restrained shape. The fog lights have quietly disappeared as well, streamlining the overall design.

The profile is carried over, but the five spoke alloy wheels have gained a new texture, combined with a fresh color option for the exterior. Nissan didn’t share photos of the rear end, where we expect more subtle updates.

Besides the new looks, the Ariya will gain a Google-powered infotainment, Vehicle-to-Load (V2L) functionality, and a revised suspension setup “tailored for Japanese roads”. There is no word on any changes to the electric powertrain options and battery packs. Underneath, a revised suspension setup tuned specifically for Japanese roads aims to deliver a more composed and comfortable drive. So far, Nissan hasn’t mentioned any updates to the electric powertrain or battery options. The Japanese-market Ariya will also get a tuned suspension.

The updated Ariya will also bring a new infotainment system based on the Google software suite, which is already used in the Leaf and the new Qashqai.

The tweaks could also slightly improve range. The current model offers up to 402 kilometers on a single charge when equipped with a 63 kWh battery, or up to 529 kilometers with a larger 87 kWh pack.

Nissan has said that the refreshed Ariya will launch in Japan “later this fiscal year,” suggesting it’s unlikely to hit UK showrooms before early 2026. Pricing is likely to remain broadly in line with the current model.
