Test 2025 RAM 2500

The pickup truck segment's highest level of capability, performance, and luxury has just reached a new level. As the leader in the full-size pickup truck market, Ram simultaneously introduces the new 2025 2500 and 3500, further raising the bar for the segment. The refreshed Heavy Duty lineup debuts with a new look, even more technology, comfort, and significantly improved performance thanks to the new Cummins® 6.7-liter High-Output Turbodiesel engine with 436 hp and 1,458 Nm (148.7 kgfm) of torque. With this new powertrain, the new 2500 and 3500 are the most powerful diesel pickups on the market.

On the outside, the new Ram Heavy Duty features redesigned, even more imposing grilles, with the brand logo repositioned. The headlights, also new, are all-LED—as are the auxiliary fog lights with cornering function—and feature an automatic high-beam control system (when traffic ahead is detected, the lights automatically adjust to avoid glare). The front styling is complemented by the sporty hood (exclusive to the 3500 Laramie Night Edition), while the side features the 2500 Laramie's new 18-inch alloy wheels and the running board, chrome-plated and fixed on the 2500 and electrically retractable on the 3500.

The new 2025 Ram Heavy Duty line arrives at dealerships in three versions: the 2500 Laramie, the 3500 Laramie Night Edition, and the top-of-the-line 3500 Limited Longhorn. All three models share a comprehensive package of changes, with new features in appearance, technology, and mechanicals.

This heavy-duty pickup truck is engineered with a high-strength steel frame and reinforced components to tackle demanding workloads. From contractors and farmers to off-road enthusiasts, drivers across Central Illinois will appreciate this truck’s versatility. RAM has also improved sound insulation for a quieter cabin, even when the work outside is anything but.

The RAM 2500’s well-earned reputation for reliability makes it a popular choice for fleet buyers and small business owners alike. It’s not just a tough truck – it’s a smart, long-term investment. Add in customizable trim levels, multiple drivetrain options, and a suite of comfort features, and you've got one of the most well-rounded heavy-duty pickup trucks on the market today.

This truck doesn’t just aim to work hard – it’s designed to feel just as good cruising down the interstate as it does towing equipment across a muddy field. Drivers who value both brawn and brains will appreciate how the RAM 2500 blends brute force with tech-savvy utility.

Standard and available features include dual-zone automatic climate control, heated and ventilated front seats, and leather upholstery in higher trims. There’s thoughtful storage everywhere, from a deep center console to fold-flat rear seating and in-floor compartments.

Safety for families is built in, too. The 2025 RAM 2500 features wide-opening rear doors, child seat anchors, and optional rear-seat entertainment. It’s everything you need for a truck that doubles as a workhorse and a weekend cruiser.

The softer sheetmetal of the Ram HD still stands out from the competition, but the truckmaker butched up the front end with taller grilles, a new split headlight design, new wheel designs, and unfortunately wider availability of a sport hood that puffs up the front end further and reduces forward visibility.

The Ram HD truck is available in a bevy of bed and cab configurations, including regular cab, crew cab, and massive Mega Cab with 6-foot-4 or 8-foot beds.

Inside, every Ram Heavy Duty features a touchscreen, and more expensive trucks super size their screens. Base trucks look and feel ready to work while mid- to upper-trim trucks seem like they are ready for a night out on the town. Ram delivers hands-down the nicest interiors money can buy in a heavy-duty truck.

The RAM 2500 balances toughness with modern luxury. You’ll get up to six seats, depending on cab configuration, and generous space in both rows, especially in the Mega Cab. Front and rear passengers enjoy stretch-out legroom and supportive seating, making long drives or rough workdays feel a lot more manageable.

The taillights are also full LED and have been redesigned. Completing the look are the iconic roof-mounted position lights, along with the built-in aerodynamic antenna. A hit with customers since its launch, the Night Edition remains available on the 3500 Laramie and includes, among other features, a gloss black grille, tinted logos, black-finish mirrors, and body-colored bumpers, in addition to an all-black interior.

The standard engine continues to be the tried-and-true 6.4-liter V-8 with 405 hp and 429 lb-ft of torque. Buyers looking to own for the long haul, and actually haul, will want to pony up for the 6.7-liter inline-6 Cummins turbodiesel engine, which now has 430 hp and 1,075 lb-ft. Every truck has an 8-speed automatic transmission, as the 6-speed that teamed with the turbodiesel has been discontinued. Rear-wheel drive comes standard and four-wheel drive with a 2-speed transfer case is available. A locking rear differential is on the options list depending on trim. Fuel economy isn’t good, though it should be better for the diesel. We don’t officially know, however, as the EPA doesn’t rate heavy-duty trucks.
Built to work, the Ram 2500 HD is rated to tow up to 20,000 pounds and haul up to 4,420 pounds of payload. The even more robust Ram 3500 HD can tow up to 36,610 pounds and carry up to 7,590 pounds of payload.

Various versions of the Ram HD can carry anywhere from three to six people, and all come with plenty of storage cubbies. The base truck is comfortable enough but the upper trims are straight luxury liners with heated and cooled thrones up front.

Safety equipment still comes at a cost in lower-level trucks, but spending up will net everything from automatic emergency braking and adaptive cruise control to blind-spot monitors and active lane control.

Additional options like a heated steering wheel, memory driver seat, and power-adjustable pedals are available in upper trims, giving the RAM 2500 a near-luxury feel. It’s also surprisingly quiet inside, thanks to active noise cancellation and acoustic glass. Storage cubbies and organizational trays help keep clutter down even during chaotic workweeks.

Power is what sets the 2025 RAM 2500 apart. This heavy-duty truck with diesel engine capability comes with two powerful options. The standard engine is a 6.4-liter HEMI® V8 producing 405 horsepower and 429 lb-ft of torque, paired with an 8-speed automatic transmission. It offers strong acceleration and dependable performance for everyday towing and hauling.

That’s best-in-class torque for the segment, and it shows—this RAM has a max towing capacity of up to 19,900 pounds and a maximum payload of 4,000 pounds when properly equipped.

The 2025 RAM 2500’s exterior is both functional and bold. A massive grille, LED headlights, and aggressive body lines give this truck a serious presence on the road or at the job site. The Rebel and Power Wagon trims add special touches, including blacked-out elements and rugged off-road detailing.

Available features include power-folding mirrors, a dampened and lockable tailgate, power running boards, and the class-exclusive RamBox® Cargo Management System. Wheels range from 17-inch steel to 20-inch polished aluminum options. High-clearance bumpers and steel skid plates can be added for extra durability if you're planning to go off the beaten path.

Opt for a deployable bed step, fifth-wheel prep package, or LED bed lighting for extra capability and convenience. This truck is as smart as it is tough. If you’re often loading and unloading gear, the available power tailgate with key fob operation adds a level of convenience you’ll quickly come to rely on.

Rear-wheel drive is standard, while 4WD is available on most trims and standard on the off-road-ready Power Wagon. The RAM 2500 also includes trailer sway control, integrated trailer brake control, and optional rear auto-leveling air suspension, making it ideal for towing heavy loads with confidence.
