Citroen C5 X is also leaving

Citroen has decided to stop selling its most expensive model. The Citroen C5 X has used up the last of the French manufacturer's credits, after interest among buyers dropped drastically last year. However, the French have, not one, but two replacements for this misunderstood model.

The French brand has played its last card in the game called C5, waiting to introduce the second generation of the C5 Aircross to have a worthy replacement for the C5 X. So, the Citroen C5 X is saying goodbye much earlier than usual, but the French want to move forward, writes Klix.ba.

Experiments often fail and it is clear that not all avant-garde cars are successful. The DS 9 is a good example of this. The brand presented it as a flagship model to challenge the Germans, and in the end it proved to be not good enough.

History has repeated itself with the Citroen C5 X. Since last summer, there have been rumors that it was doomed to disappear, and although it was not clear what date was marked on the calendar for its farewell, it was clear that it would not last long.

The C5 X never really found a common language with customers to stay on the market. With barely four years on sale, the C5 X has already said goodbye to the European market, and the French still have a small contingent of vehicles in stock. According to sales data published by the Jato Dynamics platform, the departure of the C5 X was, to put it mildly, painful, since 11,881 units were sold in 2023 compared to only 4,296 copies in 2024. This is far less than all competitors.

Sales figures for conventional brands are modest in the D segment, and Citroen has no intention of returning to the D segment for the time being. When it was launched, expectations for the French brand were extremely high, as it was advertised as the "best of three worlds": a sedan with a sporty pedigree, the practicality of a station wagon and a model with a higher ground clearance typical of SUVs, although it is not a classic SUV.

However, its presence on the European continent was more than short-lived. However, Citroen recently presented the second generation of the C5 Aircross SUV. This model will make up for the sales figures, and on the other hand, for those who want a "lower" model modeled after the outgoing C5 X, the French can offer the DS N°8 as a perfect balance of design and performance, which at the same time provides extraordinary luxury to all passengers.
