Is this the new Alfa Romeo Stelvio?

Some media outlets have published patent images of what appears to be a new generation of Alfa's Stelvio SUV, which is due to arrive later this year (perhaps on June 24, the company's 115th birthday).

Sharing its platform with the new Giulia, which is expected in 2026, the next-gen Stelvio will also get a state-of-the-art interior, with an advanced infotainment system with AI and an ADAS package to improve their autonomous driving capabilities.

The new Alfa Romeo Giulia and Stelvio will be based on the STLA Large architecture, which is also used in the latest Dodge Charger. However, Alfa Romeo's CEO assures that the Italian models will have a unique layout, noting that the brand's engineers have "changed things" to differentiate them from the American car.

In the meantime, Alfa's design evolution will continue to move forward. Design chief Alejandro Mesonero-Romanos previously revealed that all future models will ditch the unusual number plate placement, thanks to modern pedestrian safety regulations. In addition, the Giulia and Stelvio will feature an updated version of the iconic Scudetto grille.

Speaking about the powertrain lineup for the new Stelvio, CEO Santo Ficilli said earlier this year: “Previously, the new Stelvio was planned to be 100% electric. But we are also working on hybrid versions.”

This multi-energy strategy is in line with recent news that Alfa Romeo has abandoned its plans to become an all-electric carmaker. The decision follows a similar move by other Stellantis brands, including Lancia, signaling a broader move towards flexibility in its powertrain offerings.

It should be recalled that former Alfa Romeo CEO Jean-Philippe Imparato hinted that the electric version of the new Stelvio could have up to 735 kW/1000 hp, making it one of the most powerful SUVs on sale.

The Cassino plant in Italy will be the production hub for the Giulia and Stelvio, with more details yet to come.
