FIAT Toro sub-pickup truck gets new Multijet 2.2 Turbodiesel engine in Brazil
FIAT Toro, a leader in the mid-size pickup truck segment that combines urban practicality and an adventurous lifestyle, gets a new Turbodiesel engine for its Volcano and Ranch versions.
With the new Multijet 2.2 Turbodiesel engine, the FIAT Toro now has 200 hp of power and 450 Nm of torque, an 18% increase in power and 29% in torque. This increase provides greater performance on all types of terrain and offers a unique driving experience, being able to travel at 120 km/h at a rotational speed below 1,500 rpm, more comfort, economy and driving pleasure.
Fiat brings more news for the Toro 2025! After relaunching the Ultra version with a 1.3 T270 Flex engine, the pickup truck now gets a new diesel engine. The Volcano and Ranch versions will now be equipped with the Multijet 2.2 Turbodiesel, the same as the Ram Rampage, confirming rumors in the press since last year. In addition, the engine should soon be available in Jeep models, reinforcing the brand's commitment to more power and efficiency.
According to Fiat, the gain with the new engine compared to the old 2.0 used until now is 18% in power and 29% in torque. The main reason for the replacement is the arrival of the Proconve L8, which came into effect in January of this year, and which made emission and consumption rules much stricter for all manufacturers.
Although acceleration or consumption figures have not yet been released, this engine has significantly better acceleration figures in the Ram pickup compared to its Fiat cousin with the 2.0 engine used until now.
In the Rampage, the 2.2 engine takes about 9.9 seconds to accelerate from 0 to 100 km/h, while in the Toro, still equipped with the old 2.0, the pickup needed 12.4 seconds — a difference of approximately 2.5 seconds. In terms of consumption, the 2.2 and 2.0 engines have similar performance, with averages close to 10 km/l, which should be maintained in the Fiat pickup.
In its official statement, Fiat did not disclose further technical details or the price of the Toro equipped with the new 2.2 Multijet engine, which should be shown soon.
The Toro will soon be restyled...Recently, during the Argentine Summer Motor Show held by Stellantis, Fiat's director in the country, Martin Scrimaglia, gave clues about what the future of the mid-size pickup will be once the Titano and LandTrek mid-size pickups are nationalized. According to the executive, the pickup truck will undergo major changes to its exterior and interior design, in order to align with the brand's current philosophy. "We will change the design, both interior and exterior, and also the performance," said Scrimaglia. [...] "At the end of the year, the Toro will change. It will be a major overhaul, in which we will see many changes to the bodywork..."
