Pecco Bagnaia takes off the 'sprina' by winning against Marc Márquez and Pedro Acosta in Mugello
The Italian Pecco Bagnaia has taken victory in the MotoGP Sprint of the Italian Grand Prix, winning from start to finish at the Mugello Autodrome against the Spaniard Marc Márquez, with the also Spaniard Pedro Acosta completing the podium after the fall of his compatriot Jorge Martín when he was running third; which compresses the general classification.
Pecco Bagnaia and Enea Bastianini overtook Jorge Martín, with Brad Binder making a mega start from behind to place fourth, ahead of Marc Márquez, Maverick Viñales and Pedro Acosta, who before finishing the first lap threw the bike at the Aprilia rider and overtook him .
Martín surpassed Bastianini to try to avoid Bagnaia's escape and Márquez took advantage of the straight to get out of Binder's aspiration, who was blocking him somewhat. Much further back, in the second round Miguel Oliveira and Fabio Quartararo went down, an incident that would be investigated.
It would not be the only investigation: moments later, as soon as the third lap started, a decisive incident occurred: Bastianini accelerated the braking at the end of the straight and launched himself into Martín. The Italian was going slightly long, Martín wanted to recover the inside, they touched lightly and Bastianini went to the ground. Both investigations would end without sanction.
That opened a gap between the top three and their pursuers, where Acosta attacked Binder and took fourth position to try to go after the Ducati; where Bagnaia began to escape, taking advantage of the fact that Martín had to defend himself from Márquez, who with six laps to go overtook his compatriot in turn one. Joan Mir left behind.
The problem for Márquez is that his fight with Martín had allowed Bagnaia to gain more than a second of income. For his part, Martín saw how Acosta was approaching him and began to push harder than necessary, ending up crashing four laps from the end. After the Murcian came Franco Morbidelli, who had a lot of pace and had gotten rid of Binder.
On that lap Márquez shaved half a second off Bagnaia to put himself eight tenths behind with three laps ahead, but on the next lap the Italian reacted and they traced the time. Although the eight-time champion maintained the pressure, Pecco Bagnaia did not give up and got rid of the Sprint thorn a week after falling on the last lap when he was leading.
Marc Márquez signed another second place - fifth in seven sprints with Ducati - and Pedro Acosta repeated in the box a week later, with Franco Morbidelli equaling fourth place in Jerez. The top 5 was closed by Maverick Viñales after breaking away from Brad Binder, with Fabio Di Giannantonio, Álex Márquez and Aleix Espargaró in the points zone.
The race entered a 'calm' phase in the front group, from which Morbidelli was cut to leave the group in a quintet. Little by little Pedro Acosta was also cut, leaving a quartet that was splitting in two until, with six left, Márquez surpassed Bastianini, which allowed Martín to escape a little.
