Jeep confirmed the launch of a fully electric and low-cost version of the Renegade, a model that has already held the position of best-selling SUV in Brazil. The proposal is to take the utility vehicle to more markets with a “comrade” price, in the range of US$ 25 thousand.
The news was revealed on Thursday (13/06) at the Stellantis 2024 Investor Day event. The new Renegade will be one of three new electric vehicles launched by Jeep in North America and will be part of the company's new global growth plan.
No other official information was revealed other than the “under $25,000” price range;
Rumors indicate that the electric Renegade will have more than 260 km of autonomy and a maximum speed of 145 km/h;
The most basic version will have a smaller 45 kWh battery, while the longer-range version will have a capacity of 55 kWh.
It is worth mentioning that the CEO of Stellantis, Carlos Tavares, declared a few weeks ago that a US$25,000 electric Jeep would be launched in the USA “very soon”, now, it has been confirmed that it is the Renegade.
The affordable Renegade EV will join the Wagoneer S and Recon in Jeep's electric lineup sold in the U.S. market. We still don't know when (or if) the electric Renegade will be sold in Brazil. The official launch schedule has also not been revealed by the company.
The announcement comes at an important time. Large automakers such as Ford are also looking for a strategy to enter the low-cost electric vehicle segment, currently dominated by companies of Chinese origin.
