TESLA

Tesla will start delivering the missing Model Y in April. It combines rear-wheel drive, which reduces consumption and increases autonomy, with a larger battery, with 75 kWh, which allows it to travel 600 km.
When it was expected that the next news regarding the Model Y would be the introduction of the more than predictable restyling, similar to what happened with the Model 3 at the end of 2023, Tesla launches the Model Y RWD Long Range in Europe, with more battery and more autonomy, maintaining only rear-wheel drive to be cheaper and more economical. We are referring to the most affordable SUV from the North American brand, in the Rear Wheel Drive (RWD) version and Long Range battery.
Until now, Tesla already offered a Model Y RWD, which was simultaneously the best-selling in the range (and the brand), being offered for €44,990. In mechanical terms, it associated the 299 hp and 420 Nm engine, installed on the rear axle, with an LFP battery pack with 60 kWh of gross capacity (57.5 useful), rechargeable at 170 kW in direct current (DC) and capable of to ensure a WLTP range of 455 km, in addition to a top speed of 217 km/h and a 0-100 km/h time of 6.9 seconds. The upcoming Model Y RWD Long Range raises the bar considerably.
Continuing to rely solely on one engine, still and always installed at the rear, Tesla's new SUV sees power rise from the previous 299 hp to a more exciting 340 hp, with the new drive unit also having more strength, as the torque increased from 420 to 450 Nm. This allows the maximum speed to be raised to 250 km/h (here it is more of an “enlargement” of the electronic limitation intended to save energy consumption than any other limitation), with the 0-100 km/h h to be achieved after just 5.9 seconds, which also contributes to the fact that the new “larger” battery is lighter than the “small” one, as it uses the more efficient NMC chemistry, instead of the heavier and bulkier (but cheaper and safer) LFP.
But if the Model Y RWD Long Range is faster and faster, we believe that customers will prefer the advantages in terms of autonomy, as the new battery with 78.1 gross kWh (75 useful kWh), rechargeable at 250 kW, will increase range from 455 km to a much more interesting 600 km. And as this version of the Model Y is not offered on the North American continent, we can't help but think that this is Tesla's reaction to the arrival on the market of the Peugeot E-3008 and Renault Scénic, the first with 700 km (with a battery 98 kWh) and the second with 625 km (with the 87 kWh accumulator).
The new Model Y RWD Long Range is sold for €48,990, €4,000 more than the version with less autonomy. The proposal will be tempting for many drivers, but the reality is that this value puts the new version of the Model Y just €3,000 from the Model Y Dual Motor Long Range, with the same 75 kWh battery, but more powerful and faster, even than with 533 km of autonomy.
