On Friday (19), the president of Honda for South America, Arata Ichinose, met with president Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva (PT), at Palácio do Planalto, to announce the automaker's new investment in the country: R$4.2 billion(Brazilian currency) between 2024 and 2030.
According to Exame, the contribution will be focused on the introduction of hybrid vehicle technology. Honda also expects to create 1,700 direct jobs and another 3,500 indirect jobs over the next six years. The meeting was also attended by the vice-president and minister of Development, Industry, Commerce and Services, Geraldo Alckmin, and Rui Costa, chief minister of the Civil House.
The commercial vice-president of Honda Automóveis do Brasil, Roberto Akiyama, said that the clear definition of the Mover program (support for the development of the automobile industry aiming at decarbonization and other items in favor of the environment), “allowed us to define the R$4 .2 billion (Brazilian currency) for investments until 2030”.
Akiyama also indicated that, from Monday (22), the automaker will begin a second production shift at the Itirapina (SP) factory. “We have a sequence of demands,” he continued.
Just for investments in the Brazilian automotive sector, the automaker already has R$9 billion(Brazilian currency) in stock;
The idea is to release the contribution after the federal government announces incentives for the production of vehicles powered by renewable energy from Mover;
There is no deadline for Honda's hybrid engine to be ready;
But in the second half of 2025, the automaker will manufacture a new SUV model in Brazil;
Akiyama highlighted that the SUV will be an entry-level model, with exclusive technology for our ethanol, while the model itself will be shared with other countries;
For now, there are no Honda flex hybrid models in the country.
In a note, the automaker reported that, “considering the current scenario and public policies to encourage the automotive sector, such as Mover, Honda values ethanol as a fuel from a natural, renewable source and available on a large scale in Brazil, in line with the energy economy. low carbon. With this announcement, Honda Automóveis do Brasil will take an important step towards the diversification of electrified products in its portfolio, with the introduction of its exclusive e:HEV flex technology in the Brazilian market.”
