David Beckham in the world of electric cars

David Beckham enjoyed resounding success while he played football, but since he packed up his boots and swapped football for business he doesn't seem to have lost any of his ability to achieve his goal. The investments that have positioned him as co-owner of clubs such as Inter Miami CF and Salford City are going well, but the popular Englishman's Midas touch does not seem to be enough to guarantee success in all areas of business.

One of the projects that caught Beckham's attention was Lunaz. This is a British company specialized in replacing the combustion mechanics of traditional vehicles, with an emphasis on classics and historic models, with electric motors and batteries. The menu of transformed vehicles includes all the best that the British were capable of producing in the last century, including models from Bentley, Rolls-Royce, Aston Martin and Jaguar, among others, which did not stop Lunaz from accepting contracts to replace the engineization of English garbage trucks, swapping diesel for electrons.

Although the start of Lunaz's operation seemed promising, with a number of Bentley Continentals, Jaguar cease operation. According to the company, the financial difficulties are due to the delay by the British authorities in confirming the implementation of the end of the sale of vehicles with combustion engines on the previously announced dates, which slipped from 2030 to 2035.

Lunaz was created in 2021, with Beckham taking over 10% of the company. The administration has now announced the suspension of all operations and the restructuring of the project, with 40 employees having already been laid off. But it is likely that the cuts will not stop there, as it has not yet been revealed whether the future involves maintaining all three business areas, namely the one dedicated to the electrification of historic cars, the one specializing in the conversion of heavy vehicles and the unit responsible for designing compact modules including electric motor, battery, inverters and all management systems necessary to replace combustion engines, gearboxes and fuel tanks, to facilitate the task of smaller manufacturing companies.
