ALFA ROMEO
Alfa Romeo says goodbye to F1 this year, but will it be able to continue or not in 2024?
With the Abu Dhabi Grand Prix, the final race of the 2023 F1 World Championship, held on Sunday at the Yas Marina circuit, Alfa Romeo ends its current journey in F1. During recent years, the Italian brand assumed the role of partner and main sponsor of the Sauber team, but the partnership fell apart when it signed with Audi to compete from 2026, which left Alfa Romeo out of the championship. But it is highly likely that all is not lost.
With tomorrow's race still to be played, to see who will win the most points, Alfa Romeo-Ferrari occupies 9th position in the championship, with 16 points, a short distance from Alpha Tauri-Honda (21) and Williams -Mercedes (28), so 7th place in the World Cup remains open and desired by the three teams. But there are those in F1 who are betting that Alfa Romeo will continue to be present in the 2024 championship.
Anyone who says so is aware that Alfa Romeo managed to secure the Ferrari engine, one of its greatest assets, and also knows that the North American Haas team, which also has Ferrari engines – but as a customer, while Alfa can consider itself of the group -, could welcome Alfa Romeo as an official partner. And this association will even be welcome for the Italians, as it would open the doors to the North American market, which Haas is part of and where it moves perfectly, a country that Alfa has its eye on to increase its sales. In the next years.
As it is the farewell race, more for Sauber than for F1, Alfa Romeo will be in Abu Dhabi as a special decoration, with a smell of “see you soon”. And to remember that this last journey that began in 2017 may not end here, the transalpine brand recalls that its team has riders such as Charles Leclerc, Kimi Räikkönen, Valtteri Bottas, Marcus Ericsson, Zhou Guanyu and Antonio Giovanazzi. In 2024 and 2025, before Audi arrives, Sauber will continue in F1 but only as Sauber.
