Company announces acceptance of cryptocurrencies as a payment method in the US

Ferrari has announced that it will accept cryptocurrency as payment for its luxury cars in the United States, writes Go4it.ro. This comes in response to requests from its customers and the scheme is expected to be extended to Europe soon.

Most top companies have avoided cryptocurrencies due to the volatility associated with bitcoin and other digital currencies. This volatility has made these currencies considered unsuitable for commercial transactions.

Also, regulatory concerns and high energy consumption have hindered the spread of cryptocurrencies as a means of payment. A notable example is Tesla, which began accepting bitcoin as payment in 2021, but later discontinued the option due to environmental concerns.

But Enrico Galliera, Chief Marketing and Commercial Officer at Ferrari, told Reuters that the cryptocurrency industry has made significant efforts to reduce its carbon footprint. He underlined the company’s commitment to achieve carbon neutrality by 2030.

How Ferrari made this decision...Ferrari’s decision to accept cryptocurrencies came in response to market and dealer requests, given that many of their customers have already invested in crypto. Galliera noted that while the company’s order book is solid and fully booked until 2025, Ferrari wants to explore this expanding world of cryptocurrencies, thereby connecting with potential customers who are not yet in their customer base.

The Italian company, which sold 13,200 cars in 2022 with prices starting at more than 200,000 euros, plans to expand the cryptocurrency payment scheme in Europe by the first quarter of next year and later in other regions where cryptocurrencies are legally accepted.

For the initial phase in the US, Ferrari has partnered with BitPay, one of the largest cryptocurrency payment processors, and will allow transactions in bitcoin, ether and USDC.
