The 10 best engines of 2023
The Ward’s Auto this year also announced the winners for the best engines of the year. To derive this particular list, the Ward’s Auto evaluates engines in the areas of horsepower, torque, technical characteristics (comparatively), noise, fuel economy and the application of new technologies.
This year there were 32 contenders, made up of new or major facelifts from 2023, with 13 having internal combustion engines, 10 all-electric, 5 plug-in hybrids and 4 hybrids.
Among this year’s winners are the engines from two plug-in hybrid models, one hybrid, one six-cylinder, one four-cylinder, two V8s and three electrics.
The cars that won this year – in alphabetical order – are as follows:
BMW M2 – 3.0L Turbocharged 6-Cyl.
Chevrolet Corvette Z06 – 5.5L V-8
Dodge Hornet R/T – 1.3L Turbocharged 4-Cyl. PHEV
Ford Mustang Dark Horse – 5.0L V-8
Honda Accord Hybrid – 2.0L 4-Cyl. HEV
Hyundai Ioniq 6 – Electric Propulsion System
Lucid Air Touring – Electric Propulsion System
Mercedes-Benz AMG C43 – 2.0L Turbocharged 4-Cyl.
Nissan Ariya – Electric Propulsion System
Toyota Prius Prime – 2.0L 4-Cyl. PHEV
