BMW 2002 TII ALPINA MANHART
German tuning company Manhart, best known for its designs based on modern high-performance vehicles, reveals its third modified model under the new Classic Cars division.
After the 'restomod' of the Lancia Delta Integrale and the BMW M3 (E30), the German specialist based in Wuppertal continues its saga with another sports car from the past: the BMW 2002 tii, with modifications signed from the factory by Alpina.
At the heart of this little classic monster is the 2.0-liter M10 inline 4-cylinder engine that features an Alpina throttle system and manifold. Manhart also installed a K&N airbox and other small hardware improvements, which result in a significant increase in engine power.
Originally, the 4-cylinder engine generated 130 hp and 178 Nm of torque, but adjustments made by Manhart increased these figures to 200 hp, with 215 Nm of torque.
Although 200 hp is not precisely impressive by today's standards, it is important to consider that the sports car weighs around 998 kilos.
In addition to the huge increase in power, the 4-cylinder engine also features a new Manhart exhaust system that provides a more powerful sound. The added power is accompanied by an improved braking system, based on the 323i model of the E21 generation.
But the improvements don't end there. To complement the increase in power and braking capacity, Manhart Classic Cars installs a Raab coilover suspension from damping specialist KW.
This suspension upgrade gives the 2002 Tii more sporty handling, ensuring the driver can make the most of the added power. Additionally, a Wiechers brace adds more rigidity to the body, further improving the car's stability and steering precision.
Last but not least, this classic beauty maintains contact with the asphalt thanks to tires measuring 215/40 R16 at the front and 225/40 R16 at the rear. They wear original Alpina multi-spoke wheels, which measure 8 x 16 inches around their entire perimeter.
The wheels, finished in classic silver, are perfectly aligned under the car's fenders thanks to 25 mm spacers at both the front and rear. An individually configured finish for the wheels is also offered.
