KOENIGSEGG

Koenigsegg Gemera: 2300hp 5.0L V8

Years ago, Koenigsegg announced that, breaking with its previous traditions, it was going crazy with a family hyper sports car. Production of the Gemera is expected to begin next year – of which 300 units can be expected – but it is already certain that the model will not stop at a little more than 1,700 horsepower.

The Swedish sports car manufacturer – which once toyed with the idea of racing – has announced that its first four-door model will be available with a plug-in, i.e. plug-in powertrain, not only a 2.0-liter inline three-cylinder engine, but also a 5.0-liter V8 engine. The performance of the coupe will thus increase from 1724 to 2300 horsepower, which will be accompanied by “only” 2750 Nm compared to the previous 3500.

At the opening of the brand’s new plant in Ängelholm, Sweden, Christian von Koenigsegg unveiled the new engine variant, which was first installed in a Gemera with green and gold rims. Taking into account its own weight of 2,946 kilograms, the power-to-weight ratio of the so-called mega-GT comes to 0.77 horsepower per kilogram, writes the CarBuzz.

They have not yet revealed how much acceleration and top speed this means, but Koenigsegg usually excels in these parameters. The 1,724-horsepower “base model” reaches 100 km/h from a standstill in just 1.9 seconds, but is capable of speeds of up to 400 km/h.
