An iPhone 14 saves the life of a man who suffered a fall of more than 120 meters
Just as the Apple Watch saves lives through its many health-related features, the iPhone 14 Apple does too. The latest generation of Apple’s smartphone incorporates a feature known as accident detection that alerts emergency services when it detects sudden movement that could be considered an accident.
On this occasion, a California man plummeted with his vehicle down a cliff of more than 120 meters last Friday and iPhone 14 accident detection feature turned on automatically to call the nearest communication center.
A brutal accident with a happy ending...From CBS News report that a man was driving on Mt. Wilson Highway in California when his vehicle suddenly left the road and fell off a cliff to a depth of more than 120 meters. After the impact, the iPhone 14 detected the event as a car accident and activated the accident detection function.
The accident detection function of the iPhone 14 is in charge of detecting accidents and sending a notification so that users can confirm that they are okay. If the user does not respond to the notification within 20 secondsaccident detection sends an alert to the emergency services.
But this was a curious case. This man’s iPhone 14 had no coverage at the time, so he redirected accident detection to the SOS emergency function via satellite, which sent a text message with the location of the accident to the emergency services.
Mike Jumpone of the members of the Montrose Search rescue team, mentioned the following:
“I think if we hadn’t had such good information about his location he probably would have bled out. I kept telling him how lucky he was.”
In this way, the rescue team was able to immediately go to the place where the accident had occurred and they were able to save the life of this man, who could not move and was bleeding to death. In fact, the crash site it was 120 meters deep and there was no way out. It would have been practically impossible to find him.
