Arocs SOD Peak 8x6: the ultra luxury motorhome
The Arocs is not one of Mercedes-Benz's most popular models. It was presented in 2013 as one of the company's heavy trucks intended for the civil construction sector.
It is available in different bodies with two, three or four axles depending on the application, and its weight varies between 18 and 41 tons. Although it may not be as attractive as, for example, the new Mercedes-Benz SL, it has a family of turbodiesel engines with an output of up to 625 hp and 2,980 Nm of torque.
One of the most unexpected versions of the Arocs arrives in the form of an ultra-luxury motorhome. The vehicle shown in the images is called the SOD Peak 8x6, and is based on the four-axle version and was built by Stone Offroad Design, a German recreational vehicle company based south of Munich.
It is certainly one of the most opulent recreational vehicles that have ever appeared on the market and the expert claims that it offers “sophisticated and robust technology, remarkable performance and absolute comfort for the driver and passengers”.
We consider this motorhome to be the perfect home on wheels for a young, thriving family. There is a large double bed to the rear of the lounge, as well as two single fold away beds. There is also a shared kitchen and breakfast room with lots of cupboards in the upper part. Probably the most impressive space in the SOD Peak 8x6 is the bathroom with what appears to be white marble.
The technology that hides behind this beautiful vehicle is also impressive. There is a 1.6 kW solar system and a 150 A generator to ensure energy self-sufficiency. There is also a 1000 liter fresh water tank and 16 liter hot water boiler.
To further improve efficiency, the engine's waste heat is used for heating, while there's no shortage of independent air conditioning, a diesel heater and underfloor heating for when the vehicle is stationary in cold areas.
Speaking of the engine, in this configuration, the turbodiesel block is 6 cylinders with a power of 530 hp. The SOD Peak 8x6 can literally take you anywhere thanks to a cyclonic air pre-filter and fuel pre-filter. Additional transmission and steering oil coolers ensure that no situation gets too tough for this adventure truck.
In addition, the driver's seat has a massage function that ensures that the driver is always comfortable. Other interesting features are air suspension, parking assist camera and cruise control.
The starting price of this absolutely impressive motorhome is 1.7 million euros in Germany. The same company also sells a smaller 6x6 version of the same model, as well as many other products based on Mercedes-Benz models, including an all-terrain motorhome based on the mythical Unimog.
