The Swedish Autoliv will launch production of its “Bag-on-Bike” in 2025

The Swedish equipment manufacturer Autoliv will launch production of its “Bag-on-Bike” system in early 2025. It is also developing airbag vests and helmets.

If the airbag has been democratized in recent decades in the automotive world, in that of two-wheelers, for obvious technical reasons, equipment manufacturers have had to find other solutions in order to integrate this device for motorcycle and scooter users.

Today, there are airbags for riders of two-wheelers, but these are integrated directly into the driver’s equipment and not into the machine itselfun like the car.

20 years after the Honda GoldWing...There are helmets equipped with airbags, but also jackets or pants. But by 2025, a major advance should arrive in the field of two-wheelers, with one of the first integrated airbags. Why “one”? Since nearly 20 years ago, Honda had already marketed a motorcycle with an integrated airbag. It was the GoldWing, a particularly massive motorcycle that allowed the integration of such a device.

Given the technical constraints and the space it took, this solution did not meet with great success among other manufacturers. But the Swedish equipment manufacturer Autoliv intends to launch its own system by 2025.

Expected arrival in 2025...The “bag-on-bike airbag”, that is the name of this concept, must indeed go into production in the first quarter of 2025. This system works much the same as that of the Honda GoldWing, with protection for the driver in the event of a frontal impact thanks to a frontal collision sensor.

Autoliv being an equipment supplier, the idea is obviously to sell its product to manufacturers of motorcycles and scooters. One of the first to benefit should be Piaggio, with whom the Swedish firm has been collaborating for several years in this area. The Italian company has already filed a patent application with this integrated system for its MP3 three-wheel scooter.
