Marco Bezzecchi reaches the top at Termas de Rio Hondo
In a race marked by tension due to bad weather in Termas de Rio Hondo, pilot Marco Bezzecchi stole the show with a brilliant performance this Sunday. He won the MotoGP Argentine Stage and claimed the first career triumph in the category in 22 races so far. The VR46 pilot took the lead early on and managed the race. In addition, the result takes the Italian to the lead of the World Cup with 50 points.
If Bezzecchi had reason to celebrate, reigning world champion Francesco Bagnaia was all about regret. With eight laps to go, he crashed on his own and missed out on the podium. The Italian still returned to the race, but ended up in 16th position and ended the dispute without being able to score.
Johann Marco and Alex Márquez, both from Ducati, completed the podium which was dominated by the festive atmosphere surrounding Bezzecchi.
Yamaha's Fabio Quartararo had to make a recovery run after suffering a collision early in the race and moving to the back of the field. Amidst the difficulties on the track, the Frenchman crossed the finish line in seventh position.
In the race, all eyes were on Alex Márquez, who had taken pole. However, he couldn't resist Bezzecchi's onslaught. With Bagnaia in third, Franco Morbidelli appeared in fourth walking at the same pace.
Bezzecchi managed to open a gap of just over two seconds and then managed to increase that gap without taking any risks. The dispute was around the vice-leadership. Bagnaia held the position until he crashed with eight laps to go. In the end, Johann Zarco tightened the pace and managed to finish the race in second place, with Márquez in third place.
With the result of the race, the leadership of MotoGP changed hands. Bezzecchi has 50. Second comes Bagnaia with 41 followed by Zarco with 35 and Márquez boasting 33.
The next MotoGP stage will take place on April 16th and will take place at the Circuit of the Americas, in Austin.
