Toyota dismantles Tesla car, engineers are stunned

A team of Toyota engineers completely disassembled a Tesla Model Y, billionaire Elon Musk's crossover. And the result of the study surprised the Japanese. One of the brand's experts describes the construction of the North American electric crossover as "unbelievable".

After dismantling the vehicle, the shock of reality came. The production structure of Tesla cars, with batteries integrated into the floor of the vehicles, is incredibly simple. The front and back of the Model Y are cast in one piece, for example.

The dismantling of Tesla not only caused astonishment within Toyota, but also called into question some points of the automaker's philosophy. For example, unlike Elon Musk's brand, the Japanese are late and slow to develop an exclusive platform for BEVs (acronym in English for "Battery Electric Vehicles"). Therefore, these cars compete for space in the development and production lines of factories with combustion and hybrid models.

With few electric cars, Toyota runs behind Tesla...The sales figures show the distance between Toyota and Tesla in the electric car market. Now under the command of Koji Sato (Ex-Lexus), the Japanese is trying to reduce the distance to the rival from California, which seems better structured in production. After all, Elon Musk's automaker only makes electric vehicles. And all are built on a simpler, lower-cost architecture (compared to Toyota models like the bZ4X electric SUV.

Thus, Toyota finally understood that it needs to reinvent itself. Even in relation to features such as remote updates over the air (Over-the-Air), one of the highlights of Tesla cars, which has been producing vehicles since 2008.

That is, even with the hiring of former executives from the Chinese BYD, which is the main competitor of the North Americans, the Japanese still has a long way to go. With that, the promise is to launch a 100% electric platform by 2026, as well as it has already announced that it will have an exclusive factory for electric vehicles. Only then will Toyota have to compete head-to-head with Tesla.
