FERRARI

FERRARI PORTOFINO M SE DESPEDE DEFINITIVAMENTE

Ferrari Portofino M has ended production

We all remember that fever that emerged in the early 2000s with convertible cars with a retractable hard top, which functioned as a coupe and cabriolet at the same time. Many manufacturers fell into this temptation, including Ferrari, which launched the California in 2008. Then it was renamed the Ferrari Portofino M and now the Italian brand announces that it is permanently discontinued.

Ferrari has confirmed to the folks at Road & Track that its hardtop convertible will soon be leaving the assembly line and its place will be taken by the newly introduced Ferrari Roma Spider, a model that recovers the canvas top.

The Ferrari Portofino M has been on the market for 15 years (including the California). The 2008 model had a 4.3 liter aspirated V8 engine, but it wasn't precisely a car that stood out for its very sporty driving, due to the overweight that was caused by the rigid roof and all the mechanism for its movement. In 2014, the California T arrived, with a turbo engine, but things didn't get much better.

In 2017, the Portofino arrived, which, in addition to the name change, from sunny California to the luxurious Italian Riviera, introduced a 592 hp biturbo V8 that, finally, was up to par with other models in the line. This time it wasn't just a beautiful convertible, it also conveyed similar sensations to other Ferraris. The last update was Portofino M, in 2021, which raised power to 612 hp.

Perhaps the Ferrari Portofino M was an underrated model, at least in its latest evolution. One of the last survivors of that hardtop convertible fad is also gone forever.
