YAMAHA

Presentation: Yamaha Tracer 9 GT+

While Suzuki and Kawasaki offer sport-touring machines built in the classic school, Yamaha approaches the category from a different direction. Members of the Tracer series can safely be called crossover machines due to the seating position and steering wheel design, the relaxed and comfortable body position is almost reminiscent of touring enduros. Although the Japanese brand can be fully satisfied with the market positioning of the model available in versions 2 (Tracer 7) and 3 cylinders (Tracer 9), the update has become relevant, whose most important benefit is the arrival of the top of the range version Tracer 9 GT+.

The machine with side cases and touring acrylic is the first Yamaha to be equipped with adaptive cruise control. Thanks to the radar weighing just 200 grams, the novelty automatically maintains the distance from the vehicle in front in the speed range of 30 to 160 km/h. ACC is not just a convenience function, because in conditions of poor visibility, the engine brakes when the driver does not yet realize that, say, the queue has stopped in front of him. As with cars, here we can set the distance to be maintained, and it is worth mentioning that the intelligent cruise control can also “turn the control” in addition to maintaining the following distance. This function prevents the speed from increasing if the system detects that the machine is turning.

The technical level of the model is also raised by the new and colorful instrument unit, which replaces the previously criticized “cinema mouse” – the driver can choose between 3 screen themes, the sporty style is reminiscent of the R1. In line with current trends, a smartphone can also be connected to the instrument unit, after downloading the MyRide app, the connection can be established via USB, Wi-Fi or Bluetooth. In addition to call management, the 7-inch system is also capable of full-screen browsing, which is particularly important given the model's scope of use.

The technical content has also improved from another point of view, as the GT+ hits the market with an improved quick shifter, a larger diameter rear brake disc, 10-level adjustable grip heating and cornering lights. If the machine travels at a speed greater than 5 km/h and the lean angle is greater than 7 degrees, the additional lights automatically illuminate the inside of the curve. Of course, we must not forget about the semi-active KYB chassis and the CP3 block. The three in line with 890 cm3 and 119 hp is one of the most characteristic features, and not by chance. In terms of torque, it resembles the 2-cylinder and, in terms of speed, the 4-cylinder resembles the power source that serves both the MT-09 and the XSR900.

The chassis and brake system have also been renewed, the suspension of the front forks has been modified, and larger 298 mm brake discs are used at the front. Like its big brother there is also a GT version of the Tracer 7, for the latter you can also order a very large Touring windshield (made from scratch resistant polycarbonate) which is 92mm taller and 70mm wider in relation to the base.
