Traditional French automotive brand announces ambitious transition process to electrification

Peugeot has embarked on an ambitious shift to the electric car. A strategic plan has been established that includes a long list of launches in a short period of time. A roadmap supported by the new Project E-Lion that has just been announced. Peugeot has not only confirmed which models will see the light of day in the coming years, but has also given new keys on how it will tackle its electrification process.

The E-Lion Project encompasses Peugeot's strategy to face the recent era of sustainable mobility. However, we will not only witness the launch of all-electric vehicles. The French manufacturer ratified the imminent arrival of automobiles with its new 48-volt mild hybrid (MHEV) technology. A technology initially announced for the Peugeot 3008 and 5008.

Throughout this year, MHEV technology will be introduced in the Peugeot range, which will not only be equipped in the aforementioned 3008 and 5008. We will also be able to find it in the configurator of the 208, 2008, 308 and 408.

The Peugeot Hybrid 48V system comprises a new generation PureTech petrol engine available in two power levels, 100 and 136 hp. It is mated to a 6-speed dual-clutch automatic transmission. A 21 kW (29 hp) electric motor is integrated into the transmission. Thanks to a lithium-ion battery, it will be able to run in 100% electric mode in certain situations. The brand warns that this technology allows a 15% reduction in fuel consumption.

In addition to ratifying the implementation of this technology for its lineup and once again highlighting the imminent arrival of previously confirmed electric cars, the most relevant highlighted by Peugeot has as its protagonist its successful compact crossover. The first details of the electric Peugeot 3008 were given. The expected Peugeot e-3008 will become a reality in the short term.

Firstly, it was announced that the new electric 3008 will be revealed in the second half of 2023. The Peugeot e-3008 will be one of the great novelties of the new generation of the model, which is currently under development. This electric crossover should face, among other models, the Volkswagen ID.4 and the Skoda Enyaq.

It will be equipped with three electric powertrains, including a twin engine. The autonomy of the electric 3008 will reach 700 kilometers and will be the first car to hit the market with the new STLA Medium platform from Stellantis.

Last but not least, we must mention the 'big brother' of the 3008. The Peugeot 5008 will also succumb to electrification at its highest level. And although in the coming months it will have a light hybrid engine, its future is to become an electric SUV. Peugeot has announced that, shortly after the launch of the electric 3008, the new Peugeot e-5008 will be launched.
