Bajaj Qute: the remarkable little Indian, which is currently the cheapest car in the world
Motorized mobility starts with bicycles and electric scooters, and continues with motorcycles, light vehicles and automobiles.
The vehicle that appears in the images is called Bajaj Qute, a model from India which is said to be the cheapest car in the world, although we cannot consider it a car as such, as it is halfway between a quad lightweight and a passenger car.
Small and very cheap, the Bajaj Qute arrived on the Indian market in 2013 to replace the classic 'rickshaws', human-powered microtaxis, in the populous cities of the Asian country. Bajaj is a well-known manufacturer in the world of two wheels and 'rickshaws' (a kind of two-wheeled car pulled by one person).
According to the brand itself, the Qute is “India's first auto taxi”, although it is cataloged as an ATV. At least its occupants can protect themselves from the inclement weather, since as we can see, the vehicle has a body.
The Bajaj Qute weighs around 400 kilos and measures 2.75 meters in length, 1.31 in width and 1.65 in height, so we are talking about a vehicle that is slightly longer than the Citroën AMI (2.41 m) or a Smart Fortwo (2.70 m ).
The engine, installed at the rear (at the front there is a small trunk), is a 217 cm3 single-cylinder gasoline engine, with a power of 20 hp, which can also run on LPG (liquefied petroleum gas) and CNG (gas natural compressed). As for the transmission, it is a 5-speed robotic gearbox.
Therefore, we cannot expect great performance, especially with the car loaded, since according to the manufacturer, the Qute can reach 70 km/h. Now, the advertised fuel consumption is very low, between 34.5 and 43.5 km/l.
Its main advantage is the price, at the beginning around 10,800 reais at today's exchange rate and now between 17,000 and 18,000 reais (Brazilian currency), although its Achilles heel is safety, since it does not include airbags or any type of security or assistance.
