Model X and Model S now have access to thousands of games on the Steam store

Since last spring, Tesla's flagship electric vehicles have been equipped with an in-flight entertainment system based on the AMD Navi 23 GPU with RDNA 2 architecture, bringing them closer in capabilities to the current generation of game consoles. Just this week, Tesla implemented support for the Steam app store, which will allow owners of restyled Model X and Model S to access thousands of games from this catalog.

A demo video on the Tesla channel dedicated to this event, as an example, talks about the ability to play Cyberpunk 2077 using wireless controllers. As Model X and Model S electric vehicles have two displays, one of which is located on the center console near the rear passengers' legs, passengers in both rows will be able to play. To work with the Steam catalogue, the Tesla Inflight Entertainment System must have 16GB of memory and the Premium Connectivity option. The list of already supported games is not specified.

Implemented support for synchronization with the Steam cloud service, which allows you to save your game progress and continue playing from the same location on other devices. Along the way, Tesla's on-board computers received support for Apple Music and Zoom video conferencing apps. All electric vehicles of the brand during this update received support for the "dog mode" of the air conditioning, which allows you to leave your pet in the cabin while visiting the store, while the central display will display the set temperature in a large size so that passers-by compassionate ones can see it. At the same time, the car owner can directly observe what is happening in the cabin using a camera facing inward.

Previously, US regulators required Tesla to block game mode while vehicles were in motion, so launching apps from Steam would only be possible in a stationary electric vehicle. Games were already available to owners of cars of this brand, but their list was limited, and integration with Steam opens up much more opportunities for entertainment.
