NEW HOLLAND
There is no doubt that not only passenger cars and trucks, but also construction, mining and agricultural equipment will be converted to electric traction and hydrogen fuel. The New Holland brand has already demonstrated a sample of a light electric tractor with autopilot elements, the production of which will be mastered at the end of next year. The model is mainly focused on use in agriculture.
The T4 electric tractor is equipped with a 120 horsepower electric motor and its maximum speed is limited to 40 km/h. The tractor's ability to run without recharging for the entire shift is elusive, but the traction battery can be fully charged within an hour - for example, during the lunch break, although this requires a special powerful charger.
The power supply function for external consumers has also been implemented. Power tools can be connected to special sockets on board the tractor or an entire private house can be supplied with power in case of a power outage in the stationary electrical network. The tractor can be equipped with various attachments, including hydraulic ones. A set of cameras and sensors makes it possible to automate the control of the tractor, but it is still unknown to what extent. Control from a smartphone is provided - at least in terms of starting the power plant. According to the manufacturer, an electric tractor can be up to ten times more profitable than a diesel one, as it requires less costs with replenishing the energy reserve and maintenance. In addition, a quieter plant allows it to operate at night and close to the animals.
Simultaneously, New Holland demonstrated a sample of the T7 Methane Power LNG tractor, powered by liquefied methane. Farmers could theoretically get the latter type of fuel from manure - if there is an appropriate facility on the farm. When such a machine will be mass-produced has yet to be reported. They are out of reach of the advertisement and prices, but the manufacturer is betting on the reduction of operating costs, which in the long term will justify the investment in new equipment.
