MB-AMG GT2: a new level within the world of competition, homologated to compete in official races
In recent times, Mercedes-AMG has become very serious with its sportier cars: the new and finally landed Mercedes-AMG ONE has become the fastest production car in the history of the Nürburgring, while on the competition side, after renewing a few years ago its cars par excellence for touring competitions, the Mercedes-AMG GT3 and GT4, now presents its bigger brother, the new top of the line of its racing-client department idealized for the young GT2 category.
A Mercedes-AMG GT2 that takes the star brand's two-seat coupe concept to a new level within the world of competition, almost reaching the point of being a Black Series homologated to compete in official races.
And that's for many reasons this GT2 is very reminiscent of the most brutal AMG GT for the streets, with a hood full of air inlets and outlets, aerodynamic additions and a gigantic rear spoiler designed from scratch, even bigger than the Mercedes-AMG GT Black Series, and adjustable.
An aerodynamic kit optimized for competition accompanied by extensive use of carbon fiber, including the passenger compartment, the fuel tank and the bonnet, result in a machine weighing just 1,400 kg, without sacrificing interior air conditioning. Its new 18-inch single-nut forged wheels with slick tires measuring 325/660 at the front and 325/705 at the rear also help.
The other strong point is its mechanics. The famous 4.0-litre flat-shaft V8 V8 engine from the AMG GT Black Series offers 707 hp of power here, a figure slightly lower than the 730 hp of the road model, but which is still equally impressive in a competition car, accompanied by 800 Nm of maximum torque delivered effectively to the rear wheels via a 6-speed sequential racing transmission and an adjustable limited-slip differential.
These mechanics will be accompanied by a chassis tuned for the toughest races with an aluminum double-wishbone front and rear suspension and anti-roll bars, as well as adjustable shock absorbers.
As Mercedes-AMG explains, this new Mercedes-AMG GT2 is being tested to go on sale at the end of 2023, although next year we will be able to see it in tests within the GT2 European Series.
