BMW X1 sDrive 1.8d disappoints in slalom test slower than Peugeot e-2008 and Opel Astra 1.2 Turbo
Our colleagues from the Spanish editorial office http://km77.com this time bring new and somewhat unexpected surprises regarding the dynamic capabilities of the new BMW X1 sDrive 1.8d, which they submitted to a driving test in slalom and obstacle avoidance (Reindeer test).
Although we are already used to generation after generation of BMW abandoning the premium brand line in terms of quality and interior equipment especially with mass models (series 1, 3 and 5), the just published test indicates that, along with this, the famous driving dynamics and driving precision, which is synonymous with the once prestigious brand, also disappear.
The new BMW X1 sDrive 1.8d proved mediocre in the slalom driving test, which it successfully passed at a slightly slower pace behind the results of, say, the Peugeot e-2008 or the Opel Astra 1.2 Turbo.
In the obstacle avoidance test, the handling and balance characteristics are even more debatable, as at a standard speed of 77 km/h, the BMW X1 sDrive 1.8d could not make it through the training ground without hitting cones and going out of the way.
Only when entering the test site more slowly at a lower speed of 74 km/h did the BMW X1 sDrive 1.8d manage to stay on track. A disappointment!
In short, for the most informed connoisseurs of opportunities in the auto industry, these results are not a surprise and it is not difficult to find a reason for this!
The general race for profit has caused savings at all levels of construction, which is also evident in the example of this test.
