BERTONE
GB110: ''made to ignite the passion of sports car enthusiasts''
Among the big names in the automobile industry, Bertone is one of the best known and celebrated. An Italian bodybuilder who was born in 1912 in Turin, and was able to create iconic and immortal models such as the Lamborghini Miura and Countach, the Fiat X1/9, the Lancia Stratos Zero and the Alfa Romeo B.A.T., among others.
It was precisely the latter that was taken as a source of inspiration for the rebirth of Bertone, which today, to celebrate its 110th anniversary, presents the GB110, a hypercar that marks the return of the bodybuilder and designer to the automotive world. A great comeback, under the banner of high power and refined style, but without forgetting respect for the environment.
Wedge shapes accompanied some of Bertone's most famous cars, and in the GB110 they return, alternating sharp edges with more rounded and sinuous lines. The reference to the B.A.T. created in the 1950s for Alfa Romeo is strong, as is the influence of other unforgettable models such as the Carabo and the Stratos Zero.
Sports that still fascinate today, avant-garde concepts for the time and pillars of Bertone's history that could not fail to be a source of inspiration for the model that represents the rebirth of the Turin bodybuilder. Just look at the back of the doorframe to establish a line of connection with the past.
Doors with glass elements also at the bottom, which pay homage to two other concept cars such as the 1967 Marzal and, once again, the Stratos Zero. Lines drawn not only to surprise and fascinate, but to make the Bertone GB110 as efficient as possible. In the hypersport, in fact, form follows function and each element, even the smallest, has been studied to get the most out of it.
A past that returns to define a model that looks to the future in terms of technology. The lights are LED, of course, and in the cabin, which is accessed through spectacular vertically opening doors, the minimalist style does not dispense with digital instrumentation and other modern elements.
“The GB110 was built to thrill its owner and ignite the passion of sports car enthusiasts,” say Mauro and Jean-Franck Ricci, Bertone owners since 2020, “but at the same time it was designed for everyday use. It is practical, comfortable and easy to drive, without being too sporty”.
But as we said before, this car also has an ecological aspect. The GB110 is, in fact, the world's first hypercar powered by a special fuel derived from plastic waste. A solution patented by Select Fuel with whom Bertone collaborated to make its creature as 'green' as possible.
The result is a bolide with 1,110 hp and 1,000 Nm of torque, with four-wheel drive and performance figures that have not yet been announced (no details of the engine are known, only that it is not electric).
Perhaps the Bertone GB110 joins the club of the fastest cars in accelerating from 0 to 100 km/h. However, it will not be the vehicle with the highest top speed, although its more than 380 km/h will satisfy the requirements of any enthusiast.
As mentioned before, the Bertone BG110 represents the Italian bodybuilder's return to car production. A limited production, however, which for the new hypercar will be limited to just 33 units. Other models will arrive in the future, also with a very small number of copies available.
