VW Jetta GLI Performance Concept

Taking advantage of the SEMA Show 2022 being celebrated in Las Vegas, the Wolfsburg brand presented an interesting prototype called the Volkswagen Jetta GLI Performance Concept, which according to the brand is inspired by the model's past in competition.

As we can see, the Volkswagen prototype incorporates several visual and mechanical improvements over the standard Jetta GLI, starting with a body widening kit that increases the width of the front and rear wheel arches by around 2.0 centimeters.

In addition to a more muscular look, thanks also to more generous side skirts and modified bumpers, the Performance Concept also has larger air intakes and a matte black body tone with a specific vinyl decoration. Nor is it missing the 20-inch diameter 'Rotiform' faired wheels.

The most interesting is probably under the hood, as the standard 2.0-litre engine includes a new RacingLine performance package, which features a cold air intake system, a new intercooler, a new oil cooler and other improvements.

The result is a power of 355 hp and a maximum torque of 504 Nm, figures that are far from the standard Jetta GLI, which delivers 230 hp and 350 Nm of torque.

The power of the 2.0 engine is sent only to the front wheels, through the standard transmission of the model, manual and 6-speed, but with a reinforced clutch. Although no performance figures have been announced, an acceleration from 0 to 100 km/h is estimated at around 5.0 seconds.

Finally, the Jetta GLI Performance Concept also incorporates a braking system with six-piston calipers and carbon-ceramic discs, and a suspension kit with adjustable dampers and low-height springs, which the brand describes as “a suspension worthy of the circuit, but ideal for the road”.

In principle, the model will not make it to production, at least as we see in the images, although some elements, such as the graphics of the caps for the Rotiform wheels, will be available for owners of the Jetta GLI.
