Chinese company to launch electrified semi-heavy truck in Brazil

JAC Motors will launch a 100% electric semi-heavy truck in Brazil. According to data from the Chinese brand, the rigid EJT-18 has a total gross weight (PBT) of 18 tons and 4x2 traction (picture above). The new model will be presented to the public at Fenatran, which starts on Monday, the 7th. According to JAC Motors do Brasil, the price should start at around R$ 1.1 million (local currency).

The JAC EJT-18 is the second 100% electric semi-heavy truck sold in Brazil. The first was the BYD ET 18. According to JAC, there are two options. The top one, with four batteries and 280 kWh, has a range of up to 600 km. However, this number is with the truck empty. With the model loaded, the range drops to around 350 km. In the version with two batteries, the range is up to 300 km with the truck empty.

According to the president of JAC Motors, Sergio Habib, the new truck focuses on medium-distance road transport. As well as urban operations, such as the transport of drink, garbage collection and even a concrete mixer.

JAC can receive 3rd axis...For this, the semi-heavy truck can receive the third axle. Therefore, it has 6x2 traction and the PBT rises to 26 t. As a result, it is a good option for companies that collect waste. In addition, in the configuration with a short body, of 7.2 meters, it can run in urban centers.

According to Habib, cities like Rio de Janeiro and São Paulo, for example, allow the circulation of this type of truck. However, the release only applies to electric models. With half the load, for example, the truck can travel from São Paulo to Curitiba or from São Paulo to Rio de Janeiro without needing to recharge the batteries. That is, you can run about 450 km.

In addition, Habib says companies that handle bulky cargo are potential buyers of the JAC EJT-18. That is, it is the case of furniture, white goods and tires for example.

According to the brand, in about 1h40 you can replace 80% of the battery charge in fast charging systems, of 150 kWh. In the case of 30 kWh, it takes about 7h30(image above). Sales of the new JAC electric truck start at Fenatran. However, the first deliveries should take place in May 2023.
