Startup launches VR system for vehicles

Holoride has unveiled its first development, which will brighten the journey of all the car's passengers. Sales of VR systems compatible with Audi vehicles equipped with MIB 3 infotainment systems start in Germany.

Now even mischievous children will be calmer - offered for €699, the Pioneer Pack allows passengers to be distracted. This bundle includes the HTC Vive Flow VR headset, game controller, extra seat belt and one year of access to the Holoride software catalogue. Each subsequent month will cost €19.99.

While access to unusual features is only available on some of Audi's latest models, and only on certain games and apps, in the future there are no barriers to using the VR system with cars from other automakers, as well as supporting other video formats. media beyond VR. Audi remains a minority investor in Holoride. At launch, the HTC Vive Flow headset is the only headset supported as one of the lightest options on the market, but more options will be available in the future.

During the demonstration of the Protocol to journalists, developers Holoride showed the game Cloudbreakers: Leaving Haven, developed by Schell Games. Players control a robot flying through a sky full of enemies. When the car turns, the character on the headset screen also turns, it also reacts to the car's acceleration/deceleration. Also, you can simply watch videos from Netflix or, for example, YouTube using the headset.

Granted, unlike the Quest headsets, the new system doesn't support 6DOF motion tracking, but the headset's capabilities are still impressive. Smartphone screen "reflection" isn't a particularly new feature, but it will help combat motion sickness for those who suffer from motion sickness. According to the developers, in one way or another, about a third of passengers in the car experience motion sickness.

The main audience, according to the developers, are bored teenagers. "It's made for Gen Z, backseat teenagers," say the developers. However, in the future, use of the system by adults who, for example, want to meditate or even work while traveling is not excluded. It is possible that in the future these systems will be used in robot taxis or personal self-driving cars where drivers are not needed. According to Holoride, 1.3 billion people travel daily by car alone.

Holoride is no ordinary VR company and is developing a comprehensive platform that takes machine movements and location into account to change content. In the future, it is possible to add a form of lighting control in the salon or the use of massage seats to endow the startup's solutions with new functions.
