FPT Cursor 13 Common Rail e-VGT: the new, latest generation powertrain from the Iveco S-Way heavy-duty line brand
The best heavy ever developed by IVECO in Brazil is powered by the latest generation of the FPT Cursor 13 engine produced by FPT Industrial. With high-tech Common-Rail injection and a new e-VGT turbocharger, the renowned 6-cylinder engine offers more power and torque at low rpm, resulting in greater productivity in the on-road application for Euro VI, without sacrificing efficiency. in fuel consumption and longer maintenance intervals.
Produced at the plant in Córdoba, Argentina, the engine also features the exclusive HI-eSCR after-treatment solution patented by FPT Industrial. With a new calibration for the Brazilian market, the FPT Cursor 13 Common Rail e-VGT brings together greater agility and high reliability for cargo transport missions.
Known from the roads, Cursor Series engines are the ideal solution for trucks destined for heavy use and long distances, with PBT above 31 tons. The architecture without EGR (Exhaust Gas Recirculation) guarantees maximum combustion efficiency, with a significant reduction in fuel consumption and greater performance.
Available in power configurations of 480 hp with 2,450 Nm and 540 hp with 2,550 Nm, the engine for the IVECO S-Way has received important updates, such as: state-of-the-art hardware, with the integration of new internal components such as steel pistons; HTS head, with high heat dissipation capacity, reducing risks of cracking, and fewer moving parts, facilitating maintenance. The calibration for the Brazilian market and fuel also features a new electronic control unit.
The FPT Cursor 13 Common Rail e-VGT also features a new four-stage engine brake operation strategy, which brings a great benefit to the vehicle: in addition to greater braking safety, it is a standout item compared to competitors. The maximum engine brake power on the 4th stage is 610 hp, a gain of 150 hp over Euro V vehicles.

Fuel injection at the right dose...The FPT Cursor 13 Common Rail e-VGT engine features Common Rail technology. FPT Industrial's state-of-the-art electronic injection ensures the right amount of fuel at the right time, with near-instantaneous maximum power delivery.
In the system, pressure generation and fuel injection are separate, which means that the pump generates the high pressure that is available to all injectors, through a common manifold. This pressure can be controlled independently of the engine speed. The fuel pressure, start and end of injection are precisely calculated by the electronic control unit, from information obtained from several sensors installed in the engine.
“This condition provides excellent performance, low fuel consumption and minimal emission of polluting gases”, points out Almeida.
More performance and torque at low rpm... In addition, the new IVECO S-Way engine is equipped with a new e-VGT turbine, the perfect combination of innovation and technology, which translates into power density and strength for all. mission types.
The electronic actuator e-VGT turbocharger offers better handling and fuel economy, as well as higher torque at low speeds. The electronic actuator provides greater speed in the control of the by-pass valve (Wastegate), for better efficiency in engine accelerations and speed resumptions, in addition to guaranteeing precision in the control of the flow of passage of the turbine gases, avoiding dynamic fluctuations in pressure and food.
With all these improvements, the IVECO S-Way with the new engine from FPT Industrial delivers a reduction in fuel consumption of up to 15% compared to the previous generation of IVECO trucks. The reduction in consumption was achieved thanks to the engine calibration with the new heavy-duty transmission, developed with 18 new calibration functions for the driving mode, including EcoRoll, when the transmission assumes the Neutral condition to allow greater vehicle roll; PreVision, in association with GPS, allows the best choice of gear changes, and Rocking Mode, which assists in starting in severe conditions.
Development for Euro VI...FPT Industrial's innovative HI-eSCR aftertreatment technology is attested by more than 650,000 units produced, achieving up to 98% NOx conversion efficiency without the need for EGR, as a state-of-the-art solution for the PROCONVE P8.
The Iveco Group brand has homologated more than 20 new engines aiming at the new emission standard in the Brazilian market. The development process considered virtual and computer simulations, prototype assembly, test benches, field tests and fluid analysis, with the support of the Engineering Research and Development (R&D) teams in Brazil and Europe.
