TESLA
Tesla CEO Elon Musk has revealed the latest details on the upcoming architecture, which will be the third after the large platform that underpins the Model S and X and the compact one used by the Model 3 and Y.
During Tesla's third-quarter earnings report, Musk said the new cart will be smaller than the Model 3 and Y, and about half the price. He stated this during an answer/question session at a time when the heads of the American company were asked about future developments.
A question from a retail investor cited impressive architectural cost reductions that allowed Tesla to enter a much more affordable car segment.
In this context, the question was about when Tesla plans to launch its third platform and what level of cost savings the company believes it can achieve. Elon Musk responded that while there are no firm release dates yet, it is "the main focus of the new car development team".
The chief executive added that the new model will outperform all other Tesla vehicles combined and will also be much cheaper.
While production costs for the smaller model are expected to be half the cost of the Model 3/Y, that doesn't necessarily mean the car's price will be 50% less than the Model 3, which currently costs $48,490 in the US.
A little earlier, it became known that Tesla's leadership in the premium car segment will expand in the third quarter of 2022.
