SUBARU

Subaru está desenvolvendo um piloto automático que, quando a conexão for desconectada, poderá dirigir a partir da memória

The company already works with its own technology autopilot that works even when the connection is disconnected

Most automakers and specialist startups, when developing advanced active driver assistance systems, rely on communication with proprietary servers to constantly exchange information about traffic conditions and periodically update the capabilities of the on-board systems. Subaru is trying to create a system capable of operating the car safely, even with occasional communication interruptions.

For Japan, explains the Nikkei Asian Review, this situation is not something exotic, as this summer, interruptions in the communication infrastructure of the operator KDDI left many cars with permanent connection to the network without the ability to receive and send information for several days . Subaru is currently developing an active driver assistance system that is capable of continuing full control of the car in automatic mode for the first ten seconds after disconnecting the connection.

The trick lies in the fact that the information received by the company's servers from the vehicle's on-board systems is used to predict the traffic situation, and the corresponding commands are constantly sent to the vehicle's on-board systems "just in case". If the communication is interrupted for more than 10 seconds, the machine will be slower and will be guided only by the information received from the integrated sensors and processed by its own processors. Basic security functions in this mode will be preserved. The company will present the finalized version of the system by 2025.

According to Subaru experts, the more information about the traffic situation can be collected, the more accurate the predictions will be in case of disconnection with the server. Therefore, a small automaker is willing to cooperate with other companies in this area. Now car prototypes with this system are being tested on the track, communication is carried out through a 4G network. By the way, Subaru isn't alone in its concerns about communication disruptions - Honda Motor is trying to solve this problem by arranging backup information transmission channels, but this approach adds to the cost of the system. It is also followed by some other automakers.
