SCANIA
Scania is launching its new line of engines in Brazil to meet the Proconve P8. In other words, the new rules for controlling pollutant emissions, equivalent to Euro 6, which come into force in January 2023. According to the brand, the so-called Super Platform also includes new gearboxes and axles.
Thus, the new 13-liter engines have powers of 420 hp, 460 hp, 500 hp and 560 hp. As well as torque ranging from 234.7 mkgf to 285.7 mkgf. According to Scania, the block gained two commands above the head. As well as crankshaft with a pressure capacity of 250 bar.
In addition, there is the so-called Twin SCR system, which combines HGR instead of EGR. That is, the brand adopted the Arla 32 and DPF particulate filter. In addition, the six-cylinder uses a new generation of lubricants. Thus, it was possible to extend the interval between oil changes.
Renewed transmission... Likewise, the Opticruise transmission has been renewed. The Opticruise G25 box will come in Scania engines with up to 255 mkgf or with power up to 460 hp. The G33 will come coupled to the six-cylinders with power of 500 hp and 560 hp and torque of up to 336.7 mkgf.
There are two transmission options: 12 and 14 gears. With the updates, the interval between system oil changes has increased from 600,000 km to 800,000 km. Along with the new system, there is the CRB head brake, with a braking capacity of 475 hp, which is now standard. Scania Retarder auxiliary hydraulics are optional. The total combined braking power is 1,155 hp.
The brand also updated the axles. According to the brand, the maximum pulling capacity (CMT) is now 90 tons. The new system, called 885, has an exclusive design and reinforced structure. As a result, it is more robust. Thus, it can account for the increase in torque, depending on the brand.
Tank and chassis...Scania has also updated the fuel tank and chassis. Among the novelties, the fisherman was repositioned and is now located in the lowest part of the reservoir. In this way, the brand informs that the maximum loss has been reduced from 15% to 5%. In turn, the new chassis, called Mach, is of the flexible type.
That is, it brings new holes, which allows expanding the options for positioning the tank. According to Scania, this does not depend on the type of implement. As well as accessories. As a result, the vehicle's weight can be better distributed.
The most powerful truck in the world now in Brazil... In addition to the six-cylinders, Scania now offers the 16-liter V8 in Brazil that generate 660 hp and 337 mkgf and 770 hp and 377 mkgf. Of the series-built truck engines, this is the most powerful in the world. According to the manufacturer, the versions with 660 hp use the G33 transmission. In the case of the 770 hp engine, the gearbox is GRSO. That is, the same one used before(Scania 770S model pictured above).
According to the manufacturer, the new trucks can have an R and S cabin. In addition, they are intended for road operations with a combined total gross weight (PBTC) of 74 t. As well as applications such as the transport of indivisible cargo. According to the company, the expectation is to sell 150 units per year.
The 7 and 9 liter engines were also updated and became, on average, 2% more economical. The 7.0 has powers of 250 hp and 280 hp. In turn, in the 9.0 are 280 hp, 320 hp and 360 hp. In addition, there will be the 13.0 with 370 hp, 450 hp and 500 hp, including for trucks used in construction and mining.
Semi-autonomous driving system...Together with the new engines, Scania launches the evolution of ADAS, acronym for Advanced Driver Assistance System, in free translation. Thus, trucks can optionally receive items such as blind spot alert and the presence of pedestrians ahead.
Likewise, there is active electric steering, which can automatically correct the trajectory in the event of involuntary departure from the lane. In addition, there is active cruise control. Thus, the truck can follow the flow of traffic ahead. That is, accelerating and reducing speed without driver intervention.
According to Scania's president and CEO for Latin America, Christopher Podgorski, this is the brand's latest platform developed for diesel engines. However, it can receive updates. As well as engines with alternative fuels. As a result, its lifespan can be up to ten years.
Electrification...After that, Scania will only offer electric trucks. Therefore, it is possible to say that by the beginning of 2030 the entire range of the brand will be electrified. In any case, the Super Platform is the result of investments by ? 2 billion in Europe. And R$ 1 billion in Brazil.
With that, the company updated the facilities of the factory in São Bernardo do Campo, in the ABC region of São Paulo. According to the company, the development of the project took five years of research. In addition, the novelties will arrive in Brazil almost simultaneously in Europe. There, the launch took place during the IAA Transportation in September. In the country, the premiere will be at Fenatran, in November.
