B Class 2023: the German MPV is updated, especially in terms of electrification
Corresponding to half of its commercial cycle, the third generation of the Mercedes-Benz B Class receives a complete facelift that includes aesthetic changes in the body and interior, as well as new mild hybrid versions.
The German MPV does not adopt revolutionary improvements, something normal in a restyling, but it increases its purchase arguments and is updated, especially on the subject of electrification.
The image changes start at the front, with a sportier bumper and redesigned LED headlights, with a three-dimensional effect. This more passionate line is also evident on the side, thanks to four new sets of alloy wheels up to 19 inches. Finally, the rear receives lanterns with a new light signature.
In the cabin follows the panoramic screen, formed as standard by the digital instrumentation of 7.0 inches and the central monitor of 10.25. At this point, it should be noted that the MBUX multimedia system receives new graphics.
This infotainment system is compatible with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto wirelessly and will, from the beginning of 2023, integrate fingerprint recognition to identify the driver. The brain of the 'Hey Mercedes' virtual assistant has also been updated, which is now even more effective in responding to driver requests.
We can't forget the updates to some electronic driving aids, such as lane keeping and the tow-maneuver assistant: both are even more precise and effective, according to Mercedes-Benz.
The three circular air vents continue, whose design is inspired by the world of aviation. As a counterpoint, the steering wheel upholstered in Nappa leather is completely new, which can also be heated optionally.
As for the upholstery, ARTICO fabric is standard, while upholstery leather seats can be chosen in different colors, including black and Bahia brown. The pinnacle of style is achieved with the AMG Line finish, featuring black leather sports seats in ARTICO/MICROCUT fabric (made from 85% recycled materials) with contrasting red stitching.
The B 250e, the plug-in hybrid version, gets a larger capacity battery and a new on-board charger. The recharging power is increased up to 11 kW (from 7.4 kW) in alternating current and up to 22 kW in direct current. In the latter case, it takes about 25 minutes to go from 10% to 80% load.
In addition, the electric motor is more powerful, as it delivers 109 hp (7 more than the previous version), while total power is maintained at 218 hp, with an electric range between 67 and 77 km in the WLTP cycle.
For their part, gasoline engines convert into mild hybrids, thanks to the adoption of a 14 hp electric unit. The range continues to include the B 180 with 136 hp, the B 200 with 163 hp, the B 220 4MATIC with 190 hp and the B 250 4MATIC with 224 hp. There is no electrification for the B 180d, B 200d and B 220d diesels, which maintain powers of 116, 150 and 190 hp, respectively.
The arrival of the 2023 Mercedes-Benz B Class is expected in the coming weeks.
