Sierra HD 2024: now with updated aesthetics both inside and out
One of the most capable pick-ups on the market has been revamped, as both the GMC 2500 HD and 3500 HD adopt an updated aesthetic both inside and out and a new luxury version called Denali Ultimate. In addition, the versions with the V8 Duramax Diesel engine increase their power and torque figures, while the gasoline versions now have a 10-speed automatic transmission.
For the gasoline GMC Sierra 2500 HD and 3500 HD there is no news for its 6.6-liter V8 engine, as it continues to deliver 407 hp and 629 Nm of torque. What changes for the 2024 model is that the old 6-speed automatic transmission has been replaced by a 10-speed automatic, which is shared with the diesel version.
The 6.6-liter Duramax V8 Diesel engine now produces 477 hp and reaches 1,321 Nm of torque, when it previously produced 451 hp and 1,233 Nm. According to GMC, the additional horsepower was achieved thanks to numerous engine improvements, including a more efficient turbocharger that helps generate around 25% more low-end torque.
Models with the acronym Heavy Duty are generally designed for heavy duty only. But on the other hand, it is known that GMC usually adds several Premium touches, (even more if compared to its sister, the Chevy Silverado). Now, the GMC Sierra HD adds a version called Denali Ultimate, which adds the following items: 20-inch aluminum wheels in gloss black; wood and leather interior; massage benches; electric sliding roof; GMC emblems in Vader Chrome; emblems with the topography of Mount Denali.
In addition to this new version, GMC Sierra for the 2024 model changes several things. On the exterior, the GMC Sierra HD 2024 features a new design that includes revisions to the front bumper, front and grille, as well as six new exterior colors such as Titanium Rush Metallic, Sterling Metallic, Volcanic Red Tintcoat, Redwood Metallic, Meteorite Metallic and Downpour Metallic.
The interior adds an optional larger 13.4-inch central display along with the new optional 12.3-inch digital instrumentation. On the other hand, Sierra HD includes forward collision and lane departure warning systems, but now adds (optionally) rear cross traffic warning and trailer side blind spot monitoring. In that regard, there are several new towing assistance features, such as cameras that help align a hitch or fifth wheel, and an optional accessory camera for the rear of the trailer for drivers to see behind them. Also new are adaptive cruise control while towing and an alert to let drivers know if their pickup's gross vehicle weight rating has been exceeded.
There will also be an extreme off-road ready version, but for now this AT4X version will not be at launch, but it should arrive later. It is worth remembering that GMC will launch Sierra HD Pro, SLE, SLT, AT4, Denali and Denali Ultimate during the first quarter of 2023 in the United States, so we will surely have more news on this date.
