GranTurismo will use the MC20's Nettuno twin-turbo powertrain
Maserati has yet to officially unveil the new GranTurismo. However, that didn't stop him from showing it earlier. Earlier this month, the manufacturer showed the exterior design of the GranTurismo Folgore and, these days, the Italian brand has unveiled the car with a combustion engine.
The vehicle took to the streets in its Modena and Trofeo versions before its official presentation. Maserati uses the MC20's Nettuno V6 biturbo engine to power the coupe, which likely means this powertrain will also power the convertible GranCabrio.
Maserati did not provide technical data on the mechanics. In the MC20 it produces 630 hp and 729 Nm of maximum torque. Normally, these figures are a little lower in the case of the GranTurismo and GranCabrio. Maybe the same as the Grecale, that is, 530 hp and 620 Nm. Let's wait.
The Italian brand considers the GranTurismo “its true icon”. At the top of the range we find the Folgore electric version, which uses no less than three engines to develop a power figure of authentic madness: 1,200 hp.
Thus, it is not surprising that the Italian coupe boasts an acceleration from 0 to 100 km/h in just 2.6 seconds and claims a top speed of 320 km/h. Of course, the V6 version will be inferior in terms of performance, but it will be much better, or at least much more real.
In fact, its design is not completely different from the previous delivery, although it does show notable differences, such as the headlights with vertical orientation.
We can say that, in terms of aesthetics, the car represents a profound evolution and not a revolution or an end point in relation to the last GranTurismo, which seems like a logical idea.
The official presentation of the vehicle should take place at the end of this year and, obviously, sales will start in 2023. We assume that the Folgore will also go on sale at the beginning of marketing. It is worth remembering that the company works to offer each model of its line with an electric version until the middle of the decade.
