On Wednesday, General Motors revealed the new 2023 Tahoe RST Performance Edition at the North American International Auto Show in Detroit. The four-wheel drive vehicle, which will start production at GM's Arlington Assembly plant in Texas later this year, will be the fastest retail Tahoe with better stopping distance -- 60-0 mph braking in 133 feet.
“The 2023 Tahoe RST Performance Edition is designed for those who want the best of both worlds — the everyday comfort and capability of a full-size SUV along with the driving excitement of a true performance vehicle,” said Scott Bell, Chevrolet vice president, in a statement.
Chevrolet is introducing its performance induction and exhaust systems to this Tahoe package that increases output of the standard 6.2-liter V-8 to 433 horsepower and 467 pound-feet of torque. That’s an increase of 13 hp and 7 pound-feet over the current RST’s 6.2-liter engine. On the special edition, the 6.2-liter V-8 engine continues to be paired with the 10-speed automatic transmission.
Additionally, the RST Performance Edition comes standard with the Luxury Package. The special edition Tahoe will have a black “RST” badge on the rear tailgate.
The package has a starting manufacturer's suggested retail price of $8,525. It will be exclusively available on the 2023 Tahoe RST with the 6.2-liter V-8 engine, which starts at $65,620.
The Tahoe is one of GM's bestsellers and carries fat profit margins. In the second quarter, GM sold 21,069 Tahoes, down 25% from the year-ago quarter largely due to low inventory. GM, like all automakers, has struggled to get parts amid a global shortage of semiconductor chips.
Here are some highlights of the RST Performance Edition:
-0-60 mph in 5.78 seconds (compared with 5.95 seconds on base RST)
-Quarter-mile in 14.2 seconds at 97 mph on the test track (compared with 14.4 seconds at 97 mph on base RST)
-60-0 mph braking in 133 feet (compared with 139.4 feet on base RST)
-Top speed of 124 mph on the test track (compared with 112 mph on base RST)
The Performance Edition offers the same 7,600-pound trailering capacity as the base RST when equipped with the 6.2-liter engine.
