FERRARI
Nicola Materazzi was the midwife at the birth of the Ferrari 288 GTO restomod
The 288 GTO type was built on the basis of the popular Ferrari 308, the V8 biturbo was turned lengthwise - therefore the wheelbase was extended by 11 cm. Now, 30 years later, the Maggiore workshop is doing something similar, only thanks to the development of technology, their car called Gran TurismO retains much more of the original starting point.
This year, due to the FIA's multiplier of 1.4, the displacement of the homologation car had to be reduced to 2855 cubic centimeters (this is how the 4.0 liters permitted for Group B came out), the Maggiore remains at 2927 cubic centimeters, but only the block and crankshaft are kept yes, the cylinder heads are new, a butterfly valve for each cylinder and 2 in-line turbochargers are installed, and there is also dry sump oiling.
As a result of the changes, the engine is 30% smaller than its factory size, so it already fits in the engine compartment lengthwise without having to extend the wheelbase. They mention 600 horsepower, which is sent to the rear wheels via a 6-speed manual gearbox.
They also created a completely new carbon body for the Ferrari 308, not least because they widen the track with the new aluminum swingarms and take advantage of the potential inherent in modern LED technology. Nicola Materazzi, who built the Ferrari 288 GTO (and then the F40) accompanied the work of the Maggiore workshop as a consultant until his death on August 26.
