Brand presents 2023 line of road chassis with more technology and power with new Euro 6 engines

The new Volvo model that arrives in 2023 is the most powerful bus in Brazil and is part of a chassis line recently presented in Europe. The new 13-litre engines with Euro 6 emissions, the new generation I-Shift transmission and many other advances reduce fuel consumption by up to 9%.

“It is the most powerful, innovative and modern bus Volvo has ever created. It reflects the entire legacy of the brand's innovation and, once again, sets a new standard in road vehicles on our continent”, proudly Fabiano Todeschini, president of Volvo Buses Latin America.

The enhancements made the chassis even more connected, safer and more environmentally friendly than its predecessors. The engine and transmission are new and the same as those used in the renowned Volvo FH, the best-selling truck in the Brazilian market among all categories. “The greater commonality with the brand's truck line contributes to the introduction of new technologies, while streamlining the supply of after-sales components to the customer”, observes Paulo Arabian, commercial director for Volvo buses in Brazil.

Less emissions, more technology... The new engine is 13 liters, with reduced emissions, meeting the Proconve P8/Euro 6 standards, which are in effect from 2023. It has Common Rail technology, which achieves greater injection pressure of fuel, making it burn perfectly, generating greater energy efficiency. The vehicles also feature Volvo's well-known Intelligent Acceleration technology, which delivers just the right amount of torque for the best performance, with maximum economy. “The entire power train and its installation were designed to ensure lower fuel consumption and fewer maintenance stops for the entire set,” says Gilcarlo Prosdócimo, Volvo's bus sales engineering manager.

Another improvement is the electronic water pump and an air compressor that decouples when not working, bringing an even better result. In addition, the radiator and intercooler fans are electric and are only turned on, partially or fully, when necessary, reducing mechanical and hydraulic losses.

The transmission of the new chassis is the renowned I-Shift, which in its 7th generation allows even faster and smoother gear changes.

“This set of innovations makes the new Volvo Euro 6 heavy-duty chassis up to 9% more economical than their predecessors, depending on topography and route. In other words, we managed to reconcile low emissions with high savings, for the benefit of our customers and the entire planet”, assures Paulo Arabian.

Less maintenance...There are many improvements made to the new chassis. This is the case of the separation, for the first time, between the water radiator and the intercooler, a change that ensured less thermal loss. The creative design made by Volvo's engineering allowed the engine compartment to maintain more stable temperatures, making the oil have a longer useful life, providing a fluid change interval of more than 100 thousand kilometers, 30% more than in the previous generation.

Digital dashboard...The innovations have also reached the driver's workstation, with a new fully digital instrument panel, the same as on the Volvo FH trucks, with more than 90 functions. The driver can customize three instrument display modes, depending on the information they want to prioritize.

The leather steering wheel is new and the driver now has the autopilot and on-board computer controls without having to move their hands, and can even answer the phone via the Bluetooth system without taking their eyes off the road.

The new chassis also have electronic alternators. Connected together, they have a longer lifespan and better battery charging efficiency. Another change took place in the electronic architecture, called Multiplex 3. It is completely new, guaranteeing higher data speed and even greater efficiency in chassis bodywork.

More safety...The new buses have even more safety, a core value of Volvo. The VEB (Volvo Engine Brake) engine brake now has 510 hp, 30% more than the previous version and remains the most powerful in the entire market.

The renowned Volvo technologies, such as the Active Safety System (SSA), Electronic Stability Program (ESP) and disc brakes with a 5th generation EBS electronic control system, are still present in the new line. In this chassis generation, the SSA is also enabled for bodies with a split windshield. In addition, all the latest safety advances are present, such as 'Forward Collision Warning with Emergency Braking', 'Lane Departure Warning', 'Windscreen Warning Sign', 'Adaptive Cruise Control' and the 'Vibrating Seat'.

Additionally, Volvo offers the Safety Zones system as a safety option. This technology, exclusive to the brand, uses GPS data to automatically reduce speed in critical areas such as mountain descents, dangerous curves or bus terminals.

Dynamic Steering...Another optional novelty in the new chassis is Volvo Dynamic Steering, a very advanced steering system created by the brand, which controls driving with high precision, smoother the steering wheel and provides greater stability to the vehicle.

Wide range of models and capacities...Volvo's new generation of heavy-duty Euro 6 road chassis starts to be delivered from 2023. They will be 4x2, 6x2 and 8x2 versions, in the B380R, B420R, B460R and B510R models. In the 4x2 version, the load capacity is 19.5 tons. In the 6x2, it is 24.75 tons. In the 8x2 version, the capacity reaches 29.25 tons.
