TOYOTA

Fourth-generation Yaris sedan unveiled in Thailand

Toyota has unveiled the fourth generation of its Asian-spec Yaris sedan in Thailand, with the model sold in more than 80 countries, including Thailand, Singapore, Brunei, Malaysia, the Philippines, Indonesia, Vietnam and Taiwan.

In some of these countries, the car is marketed as Yaris Ativ, while in others it is marketed as Vios. The new model is codenamed AC100 and replaces the one launched 9.5 years ago – again in Thailand – and had the internal code XP150.

The Yaris Ativ/Vios is a small, affordable sedan, with Toyota looking to appeal to young drivers who have just gotten their license. The model is based on the Daihatsu New Global Architecture (DNGA) platform and is 4,425 mm long. (+15 mm), width 1,740 mm (+40 mm), height 1,475 mm (+5 mm), while the wheelbase reaches 2,620 mm, being increased by 70 mm. compared to its previous generation.

Aesthetically, it looks like a scaled-down Corolla sedan, as at the front there is a large opening in the bumper, flanked by two aggressive headlights connected by the grille. The profile is more muscular and plush than ever, benefiting from improved proportions and larger 16-inch wheels. Finally, the rear adopts a sportier design with angular lights and a more aerodynamic silhouette.

Inside the cabin, the design looks quite modern for a vehicle in this class, thanks to the simple dashboard layout and premium upholstery materials like the red faux leather pictured. The infotainment screen has a 9-inch diagonal and is compatible with Apple CarPlay and all modern connectivity features, while the instrument panel is semi-digital, as it has a 7-inch screen.

There are four USB ports, automatic air conditioning with air vents for all passengers (front and rear), hidden lighting in 64 colors, Pioneer sound system with six speakers and trunk dividers in the trunk. The equipment also includes the Toyota Safety Sense suite, including adaptive cruise control, rear rear traffic alert and blind spot monitoring.

Under the hood is a naturally aspirated 1.2-liter Dual VVT-iE four-cylinder engine that produces 94 horsepower and 110 Nm of torque. The engine is exclusively mated to a Super CVT-i automatic transmission, which sends power to the front axle. There are three driving modes – Eco, Normal and Sport. The subcompact model has disc brakes on all four wheels, McPherson suspension at the front and a semi-rigid axle with coil springs at the rear.

The Toyota Yaris Ativ is now available in Thailand with prices ranging from 539,000 baht (€14,800) to 689,000 baht (€18,920), depending on the finish. Rollout to other Asian markets will begin in the coming months.
