TESLA
CEO Elon Musk on Sunday congratulated the Giga Shanghai factory on the production of its millionth car and announced that Tesla has produced more than three million electric vehicles.
The achievement is particularly notable in light of Giga Shanghai's production disruption earlier this year, as the factory was forced to close for about three weeks in April due to the resurgence of COVID cases in China. Tesla was also forced to suspend most of its Giga Shanghai operations during the first two weeks of July to upgrade the plant.
Recent reports say that Giga Shanghai's production capacity rose to over 50,000 Model Ys per month in July and is expected to increase to 60,000 per month in the coming weeks. Meanwhile, a new video posted by a YouTuber showed a batch of 9,000 Tesla electric vehicles waiting to be shipped at Shanghai's South Port terminal.
Along with the Shanghai plant, Tesla also manufactures electric vehicles in Austin, Texas; Fremont, California; and at the Gigafactory Berlin-Brandenburg in Germany.
Tesla said it delivered 254,695 vehicles in the second quarter, up 26.5% from last year.
