New version of the Urus SUV breaks record at the mythical Pikes Peak International Hill Climb

Lamborghini has been keeping a secret. During the 100th edition of the mythical Pikes Peak International Hill Climb, celebrated last June, the Italian manufacturer faced the climb with the new version of its Urus crossover, and achieved a new record.

This mysterious version of the Lamborghini Urus became the fastest production SUV on the famous Colorado mountain, scoring a time of 10 minutes and 32 seconds and snatching the title from the Bentley Bentayga (10:49 in the year 2018).

"The decision to test at Pikes Peak reflects Lamborghini's spirit of 'expecting the unexpected' and demonstrates the incredible performance of the new Urus version that will soon be introduced," said Lamborghini technical manager Rouven Mohr.

What we know for now is that this record-breaking Urus hides a V8 biturbo engine and that, for the occasion, it fitted Pirelli P Zero Trofeo R tires that are an evolution of those used by the conventional Urus.

The example in question, piloted by Simone Faggioli, test pilot for Pirelli, incorporated a safety cage, a racing seat with a six-point belt and a fire extinguishing system, but the rest was standard.

The Italian brand also confirmed that this new Urus (Evo?) will be presented this August, so it is possible that it will do so during Monterey Car Week. In principle, Lamborghini intends to reveal this month two versions of the SUV and another of the Huracán.

It is worth remembering that the SUV from Sant'Agata Bolognese has already become, with only four years in production, the best-selling Lamborghini in the company's history, with more than 20,000 copies manufactured.

During the first half of this year 2022, Lamborghini delivered 5,090 cars, of which 61% were Urus. Over the past year, 59.74% of all the brand's sales corresponded to its SUV model.
