EXCLUSIVE: photos of the new generation Mustang appear on the web
On Wednesday, September 14, Ford will unveil the new - seventh - generation Mustang, with the aim of its model maintaining its leadership of the world's best-selling sports car. The current sixth generation (S550) of the popular pony car was unveiled in December 2013, meaning it has been on the market for 8 years, with Ford gearing up to introduce the new model at the Detroit Auto Show with press day to be announced. scheduled for September 14th.
Photos of the new generation (S650) were recently leaked from inside the Ford facility, revealing the front of the legendary pony car, giving us our best look yet at the next model from this angle.
As expected, in terms of design, the new Mustang represents more of an evolution than a revolution, with a slightly less aggressive look than the current model.
The design of the lighting bodies is completely different as they are thinner than the current model and appear to have three LED elements. The familiar pony emblem is present on the grille, which retains its familiar hexagonal shape, while there is also a lower grille underneath, flanked by air inlets on either side.
The new generation will be based on the CD6 platform, the same used by the new Ford Explorer and Lincoln Aviator. The platform can accommodate front-wheel-drive, four-wheel-drive and rear-wheel drive models, with the new Mustang featuring plenty of aluminum, which will translate to reduced weight.
The base engine will remain the 2.3-litre EcoBoost, which will also be available with a 6-speed manual transmission, while within the model's life cycle there will also be a purely electric version. The new Mustang will also be offered with a V8 hybrid engine, with the 5.0-liter internal combustion engine sending power to the rear axle, while two electric motors will be mounted to the front wheels, making the model all-wheel drive.
