Company patents application that communicates with pedestrians to alert them if they should cross a crosswalk or not

Ford has filed a patent with the US Patent Office (PDF) that describes the functionality of a smartphone app that allows cars operating in autonomous mode to communicate with pedestrians through their phones and tell them whether or not they will stop to cross.

According to the patent description, the autonomous vehicle will communicate its intentions to the pedestrian through an augmented reality app, while the vehicle will also collect information through machine learning so that autonomous vehicles learn when to stop and when not to pass. the pedestrians.

It is not yet known whether this application will go into production, but it has several disadvantages, since it is not two-way, with only the autonomous vehicle having the ability to show its intentions to the pedestrian and not the other way around.

Also, it is not the safest for someone to constantly scan an intersection to see if they can cross it safely or not.
