LADA
Lada Largus will be produced in Russia with an outdated platform without ABS, airbags and with the jurassic 1.6L engine of only 90hp
Russian manufacturer AvtoVAZ has just announced the resumption of production of the Lada Largus, the famous Dacia Logan MCV renamed signed Lada.
the Lada Largus is not a new model on the market: in fact, this break was launched in 2010 in Russia, in the form of a Dacia Logan MCV renamed by the Renault group, then owner of 25% of the Russian manufacturer AvtoVAZ, which distributes the Lada brand.
Things have changed recently for the French group: in fact, at the beginning of 2022, Renault decided to suspend its activities in Russia, after political pressure linked to the conflict between Russia and Ukraine: a heavy choice of consequences for the French, since he was then forced to cede all its activities in Russia to the Russian state last May.
AutoVAZ has just announced that it is relaunching production of the Lada Largus, at a rate of 320 cars per day. In total, some 1,800 cars are planned to be assembled by August 2022.
For this, the Russian factory in Togliatti will use the stock of available components, which has recently been replenished. Indeed, during Renault's withdrawal from the Russian market last May, the Russian Ministry of Industry and Commerce announced that the French manufacturer would continue to supply AvtoVAZ with components to assemble existing models. This condition was imposed on Renault to allow Lada to continue producing some models designed by the French group, such as the Largus.
Simplified configuration...However, the Lada Largus that will be produced in the next few days will have a simplified configuration: in fact, only the 1.6-liter eight-valve engine with 90 horsepower will be available, and due to the current shortage of components in the wake of – Russia, the copies produced will not have no airbags or ABS.
In theory, such a safety configuration would prevent the approval of these vehicles, but given the current situation, the Russian authorities have decided to turn a blind eye and authorize approval and circulation of these Lada models, devoid of these basic safety elements.
A complete restart of production of the Lada Largus is also planned for December 2022. However, this information has not yet been confirmed, and it is also possible that Lada vehicles produced based on the Renault B0 platform (Largus and Xray) are retiring in in the near future, ending the collaboration with the French group.
Recently, AvtoVAZ has also restarted production of the Lada Granta, another 'anti-sanctions' version which, again, is devoid of airbags and ABS. AvtoVAZ currently employs more than 30,000 people in Russia, most of them at its Togliatti factory, located in the southwest of the country on the banks of the Volga.
