JAGUAR
The brand plans to develop a total of three new high-end electrified cars
The time has come for Jaguar to take its bet on electrification to the highest level. The British brand has only one electric car in its portfolio, the Jaguar I-Pace. However, that will change in just a few years. The manufacturer is in full swing with the aim of carrying out an ambitious product offensive. A roadmap whose ultimate goal is the year 2025.
Jaguar plans to develop a total of three new electric cars. A trio of sporty crossovers that will be destined to play a starring role in the lineup. These new models will reach new levels in terms of exclusivity, performance and technology. Jaguar intends to put itself in a position to take on Bentley. New and interesting information from British lands will shed some light on what the feline brand is planning.
This new line of models will be based on the Panthera platform and will maintain a close relationship with regard to the propulsion system. All will carry the 'Made in UK' label and will be instrumental in transforming Jaguar into a luxury electric car brand.
The new information that emerged allows us to answer a question that had been flying over the company. Will there be an electric Jaguar access? The truth is that the model that will play the role of access to the new Jaguar lineup cannot be defined as such. It will be similar in size to the Porsche Taycan Sport Turismo and is expected to adopt a similar role to the Range Rover Sport.
This new electric Jaguar, whose name is unknown, will be available in a three- and five-door bodyshell, positioned in the offer as separate models. The price in its access configuration will be around £85,000, well above the roughly £70,000 that the current I-Pace starts with.
As for the propulsion system, Jaguar will structure the offer in engines with one and two engines, so that it will be possible to count on a configuration of all-wheel drive. In addition, the brand has left the door open for more exclusive and higher-performance versions under the SVR emblem. The top model will, predictably, have an increased wheelbase. Due to its dimensions, it will be focused especially on markets such as the United States and China.
It is not ruled out that the first of these new electric cars planned by Jaguar will be anticipated through a concept model. A concept car that will lay the foundations for the design language that will mark the future launches of the British brand.
The aforementioned Panthera platform will be decisive for the Jaguar design team to materialize these new models. The architecture will support 800-volt charging systems, state-of-the-art electric motors and advanced autonomous driving functions.
Jaguar will do everything possible to ensure that all technology used in this new family of electric vehicles is developed and manufactured in the UK. Certain reports suggest that the company will establish a strategic alliance with Envision AESC. A plan that opens the door to the construction of a battery factory in Teesside (England).
Finally, there is the question of where these new electrics will be manufactured. One of the options being considered is to expand the facilities at Solihull. However, there is still no official confirmation about it. Anyway, Jaguar will try by all means to have them made in the UK.
